I am Wil Kramer and born on 3rd of august 1953 in Haarlem. Part of my roots lies in Africa. I am now painting for several years and I am fully self-taught.
In my childhood I loved to draw. Proud I was when I as an eight year’s old little girl won a drawing competition. From then on I knew that THIS IS IT. Today we call it passion and this feeling gave me freedom. The isolation from the outside world and entering into another world in which I could express myself with my own shapes and colours.
My youth was not a so called bed of roses. There was a lot of sickness and sadness. At school I was always looking forward to the drawing lessons, in which I got the highest marks. The rest of my school performances were not too important to me, also due to the circumstances at home.
Years ago, Egbert my husband gave me as a present a box with tubes of oil paint and brushes. Much later in 2000, I began to paint inspired by African artists and their art.
Oil paint is not the easiest material to work with. It dries slowly but has the benefit to work “wet on wet”. You can mix colours beautifully, so you can create your very own colour.
Africa has always played a great part in my life. My father died in Zimbabwe in 1962 and is buried in Harare. Part of my family still lives in Africa.
It was always a great dream for me to visit this colourful continent. Beginning 2007 my wish came true at last. This trip has brought me to the peaks of my emotions. I must admit, except some sad moments, I experienced paradise. There finally I closed a part of my youth.
Whatever future may bring, my colours will be always recognizable. Painting gives me an enormous feeling of freedom and brings me to the clouds. Whatever touches me, I want to paint, especially in oil paint. This matches the best with my techniques. My colours stand for a positive view on life and this I want to share with you.
I am selling some of my art works, so I can make more space for new inspiration. If you are touched, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email.
